Twitter has temporarily closed all its offices on Friday. Not only that, the microblogging site has also revoked internal system access privileges for employees. As a result, employees cannot use or control any of Twitter's internal technologies and services without special permission.




The number of workers on the layoff list is not known, but it is believed to be in the thousands. Because earlier, Twitter's owner and CEO Elon Musk announced plans to cut half of Twitter's workforce to reduce operating costs.


After taking ownership of Twitter a week ago, Elon Musk fired some of the site's top executives, including CEO Parag Agarwal. He announced the plan to lay off staff first with the responsibility of Twitter.


Twitter sent an email message to employees on Thursday. It said global layoffs will begin Friday at 12 a.m. local time in order to get Twitter on a healthy path. Employees who will be retrenched will be notified of the next steps on their personal e-mail addresses. Those who will not be retrenched will be informed through official e-mail.
