This September is being celebrated as PCOS Awareness Month. It is said that one in 10 women suffer from PCOS or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

This disease is mainly caused by excess production of male hormones like androgen or testosterone and hormonal imbalance in women's body. Due to this, various problems like male facial hair, acne, irregular menstruation, hair loss, mood swings, infertility occur.

Researchers say that PCOS is basically a lifestyle disease. That is responsible for teenage weight gain, bad eating habits, physical inactivity. Therefore, one of the most important adjuncts in the treatment of PCOS is a balanced diet. So let's take a look at what to eat and what not to eat to prevent PCOS.

Foods to eat
Green vegetables: Eat more green vegetables. Low in calories with vitamins. So ideal for weight loss and nutrition. Green vegetables like collards, spinach, etc. are excellent sources of vitamin B.

Lean Protein: Helps balance hormones and control weight. Chicken, turkey, tofu, salmon, shrimp, tuna, beans, etc. can be kept in the diet as lean protein.

Beneficial fats: All fats (fats) but not harmful to the body. There are many 'healthy fats' that can be included in the diet. Such as avocado. Healthy fats are a source of essential fatty acids. Nuts and seeds are excellent sources of healthy fats and protein.

Foods rich in antioxidants: The list includes strawberries, blueberries, oats, wheat, peanuts, walnuts and kale, spinach etc. Antioxidant-rich foods can help control PCOS inflammation.

Fiber-rich foods: Eating fiber-rich foods is very important if you have PCOS. Oats, brown rice, black beans, lentils, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds etc. are excellent sources of fiber. Fiber-rich foods are also important to keep the body's insulin levels under control.

Foods to Avoid
Sugar and high carbohydrate foods: PCOS patients are at a higher risk of developing diabetes. Their body has high insulin and glycemic levels. So stay away from high sugar foods. Avoid sugar, sweets, juice, candy, etc.

Red Meat: Cholesterol increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Saturated fat in red meat or beef. Even problems like weight gain and hormonal imbalance can occur.

Junk food and fried food: These types of food contain high levels of salt, unhealthy spices, trans fats, artificial sweeteners, etc., which can increase bad cholesterol and affect blood pressure. These foods increase the glycemic index and increase the risk of diabetes.
